Writers, we are officially halfway through 2020! To celebrate, I had some fun with my July bullet journal setup, so I thought I would share.
I use my bullet journal to keep track of writing goals, which helps me find time to do what I love amid the chaos of college life. For more on how starting a bullet journal can make you a better writer, check out my last post!
I don’t have much going on this month, but I do have a few virtual events and meetings to put on a calendar, and I want to set some goals for blogging and writing. This is one of the things I love about having a bullet journal: flexibility! I created this spread to allow for space to plan exactly what I want to accomplish this month, without having to worry about fitting my goals into pre-made boxes (literally and metaphorically).
Since I didn’t need much space for my calendar, I used one page for the title and the other for a smaller calendar (3×5 boxes). I always leave some room on my monthly spreads for notes, which is where I might list some month-long tasks or anything happening next month.
The design of this month’s plan may look like a lot of work, but it was honestly one of the easier months I’ve done! I found some random watercolors I did in middle school and have no desire to save, so instead of throwing them out, I cut and ripped out the nicer-looking sections and glued them down. I used a simple brush pen for the lettering, and a regular pen for the details. I liked the combination of the ripped edges and clean-cut ones, and I used it to my advantage when I messed up my lettering and had to cover it up. (No mistakes, just happy accidents, right?)
The next pages are for my goals and my monthly playlist. The only thing I did differently here was gluing the title backgrounds slightly off the page, and then cutting them to line up. I also added some drop shadows to the rectangles where I’ll write down songs in that I discover in July.
I won’t be doing weekly spreads this month because, like I said before, I really don’t have much to plan for on a daily basis. My focus this month will mainly be on writing and blogging, so that’s why I stopped my spreads here.
Let me know what your goals are for this month, writing or otherwise! I will likely be posting more about bullet journaling, because the creativity it allows goes hand in hand with my writer’s brain. If there’s anything in particular you want to know, I would love to hear it!
Once again, happy July! Hope this month is filled with productivity, creativity and growth.
